Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Mineral Resources Deputy Minister Widjajono Partowidagdo was a strong figure who was qualified in his field so that his sudden death was a great loss to the nation.

"With deepest condolences, we on behalf of the state, government and the Late`s colleagues, express hour condolences and hope that he will rest in peace. I know him personally, he is a person with a strategic thought and high idealism, particularly about the national energy development," the president said after paying last tribute to the Late Widjajono here on Sunday.

President Yudhoyono, who was accompanied by Mrs Ani Yudhonono, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Andi Mallarangeng and Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, said that Widjajono had strong commitment to his duties.

"The Late Widjajono was very active in assisting my minister in arranging policies and strategies in the energy field," the president said.

Deputy Minister Wijajono Partowidagdo passed away when he was climbing Mount Tambora in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province on Saturday.

His body was then evacuated from the Mount Tambora hiking area, about 2,500 meters above the sea level. Widjajono died after becoming exhausted while climbing the mount, Dompu district, West Nusa Tenggara.
