"Are obligated to implement the system."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Companies employing over 100 workers are obliged to implement the healthy and safety work management system based on Government Regulation No. 50 signed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono last April 12, according to a minister.

"With the issuance of the government regulation, all companies, particularly those employing at least 100 workers, or those which have high level of occupational accidents, are obligated to implement the system," Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar said here on Friday.

The government regulation is issued as an implementation of Article 87 of Law No. 13/2003 on manpower which states that healthy and safety management system (SMK3) is part of the company`s whole management system.

It is a system to be carried out in the framework of controlling occupational accident risks in an effort to create a safety, efficient and productive work place, the minister asserted.

He said that the government intentionally issued the regulation in order to increase measured, planned, structured and effective occupational protection.

"With the issuance of the regulation, all companies based on the criteria are obligated to abide by and implement the SMK3 system to protect workers," the minister said.
