Jakarta police spokesman Senior Commissioner Rikanto said here on Monday "we would be more selective in issuing football match permits."
He said the move was taken after three supporters died and five others were seriously wounded after attending a match between Persija and Persib at Bung Karno Main Stadium here on Sunday afternoon.
He said some supporters had not been able to control themselves in supporting their favorite team.
He said the Jakarta police also would advise organizers to move the venue of a football match considered vulnerable to cause clashes among supporters.
Rikwanto said that the police had actually taken maximum efforts to assure the security of the match on Sunday. "Officers have stood guard in main gates to the stadium or outside the stadium," he said.
He said the clashes on Sunday that left three people dead were believed to occur outside the stadium.
The Bung Karno stadium has a capacity for about 100,000 persons and during the match between Persib, the favorite team from Bandung, West Java, and Persija, the favorite team from Jakarta, the stadium was full.
