"The cocaine brought by the smuggler was of the very rare type."Kuta (ANTARA News) - The customs office of Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali foiled the smuggling of 4,791 grams of cocaine by a British national, Lindsay June Sandiford.
Head of Ngurah Rai Airport Customs Office I Made Wijaya said in Kuta Monday that Lindsay had been caught by security personnel when disembarking from a Thai Airways plane plying the Bangkok-Denpasar route.
"The cocaine brought by the smuggler was of the very rare type. At the black market it sells at Rp5 million per gram, and the smuggled cocaine had total value of Rp24 billion," he said.
Made Wijaya said the perpetrator had put the cocaine in a black suitcase. When leaving the airport, security personnel examined suitcase of the 35-year old woman and found the cocaine in the suitcase. Lindsay when found guilty is facing the death sentence and fined Rp10 billion.
In the development of the case, the customs authorities and the police and other relevant authorities also managed to arrest three other suspects also of British nationality and an Indian, as part of an international syndicate.
The press could not yet speak to the four suspects as they were still under intensive interrogation.
