"We have so far questioned four witnesses."
Jayapura (ANTARA News) - Police in Jayapura, Papua, have questioned four witnesses following the shooting of German national Dietmar Pieper (55) in Base G beach in Jayapura on Tuesday.

Papua regional police command chief intelligence Senior Commissioner Wachyono said to ANTARA here on Wednesday the police are still conducting an investigation over the case in an effort to catch Dietmar`s attacker.

"We have so far questioned four witnesses, two of them are drivers," he said adding the police had also questioned Mrs Yakadewa the owner of a traditional "honai" house in Base G beach.

He said the police could not as yet determine who the gunman that had hurt Dietmar was nor his motives.

The incident occurred when Dietmar and his wife, Eva Medina, a Spanish national, were taking a walk on Base G Beach on Tuesday morning.

At around 11.30am a silver-colored car suddenly stopped and one its passengers got out of the car and shot Dietmar in the chest.

Dietmar is now being treated at Dok II regional hospital. His condition is stable following an operation in the chest on Tuesday to stop bleeding. He is still at the Intensive Care Unit and is not yet allowed to speak.
