"There has been approximately 80 million people who have completed the process, and a portion of those people have received their e-KTP," said Fauzi in a meeting for the coordination of population for the Islands of Riau at Planet Holiday Hotel here on Thursday night.
The minister stated that since May, there have been 5 provinces which have completed their implementation program for e-KTP including Yogyakarta, South Sumatra, Aceh and Bangka Belitung.
"Several other regions are also completing their program, hopefully by mid-June we would have processed 85 million residents," he said.
In comparison to several other countries that have already implemented the e-KTP program such as Germany, Netherlands, China and India, Indonesia is one of the fastest in it`s implementation, said the Minister
Germany, with a population of 70 million, needed up to 6 years to conduct the e-KTP program, the minister revealed.
"Within several months, Indonesia has been able to reach 80 million people. Our aim is to have 172 million e-KTP processed before the end of 2012. That is a very short time frame," he said.
Fauzi has asked regions to implement the program seriously so that at the end of 2012, all regions would have finished conducting the e-KTP process.
"If everyone is committed, it is not impossible to have the whole process finished before the end of the year," he claimed.
The meeting , attended by Deputy Governor for the Island of Riau ,Soerya Respationo, and regents and mayors from Riau Island, awarded Bintan Regency and Tanjungpinang regency for completing their e-KTP program.
The award was accepted by the Bintan regent, Ansar Ahmad, and the Mayor of Tanjungpinang, Suryatati A Manan. (*)
