"The floating museum will also showcase the crafts of Wakatobi blacksmiths."Wangiwangi, SE Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The Department of Tourism and Creative Economy in Wakatobi district, Southeast Sulawesi, according to an official, will this year build a floating museum at Mola Bahari village in South Wangiwangi sub-district.
"We call it a floating museum because we will be building it in the sea," Wakatobi Department of Tourism and Creative Economy spokesman Tawakal said here on Thursday.
According to Tawakal, the floating museum will be built at a cost of Rp1.5 billion, which will be allocated from the 2012 Wakatobi regional budget.
Tawakal also noted that, when completed, the museum would accommodate historical objects and cultural symbols of the Wakatobi people, especially those of the Bajo ethnic community.
Further, it will include collections of various species of marine life found in the sea near Wakatobi district.
"The floating museum will also showcase the crafts of Wakatobi blacksmiths, such as traditional cleavers, agricultural tools and kitchen utensils made of steel," Tawakal said.
He also mentioned that visitors to the museum would have an opportunity to gain knowledge about the past lives of various traditional cultures of Wakatobi people and Bajo ethnic community.
