Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The United States embassy supported Angkasa Pura I and Angkasa Pura II in organizing the June 26-27 Global Airports Indonesia (GAI) conference to highlight the importance of airport development in supporting Indonesia`s continued economic growth and expanding international trade and travel.

"The United States is working through the U.S.-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership to support Indonesia`s continued economic growth and success. Infrastructure improvements, such as the development of Indonesia's airports as will be discussed at this conference, are a key factor in supporting economic development," US Ambassador to Indonesia Scot Marciel said at the GAI opening, as quoited on the US embassy`s official website here Wednesday.

Many of the US firms participating in Global Airports Indonesia have experience in airport development projects in the United States and in many countries around the world, he said.

"I hope that American firms, through their technology leadership and experience at delivering cost-effective solutions, can be helpful in the future development of Indonesia`s airport and aviation infrastructure," he added.

The GAI conference is the largest conference on airports and aviation held in Indonesia and bringing together Indonesians involved in airport development with global leaders, including U.S. companies that offer proven, cost-effective and leading technology solutions to support airport development.

The U.S. Embassy`s Commercial Service partnership with Ankasa Pura I and Angkasa Pura II assisted in bringing top speakers to the conference including leaders from the University of North Carolina, Boeing, Honeywell, Landrum & Brown, Lockheed Martin, Cisco, Motorola, ARINC and others to share lessons learned and highlight opportunities for collaboration to support Indonesia`s infrastructure development goals.

These and other U.S. firms participating in the conference offer innovative solutions to improve aviation safety, air traffic management and communications to meet Indonesia`s rapidly growing aviation needs.

The conference outcomes will accelerate the work of stakeholders to support development of Indonesia`s airports to advance national development, as entry hubs for trade, investment and tourism.
