"In the 21st century, our major mission is to work towards an advanced and prosperous Indonesia."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has said that Indonesia is determined to become a world leader by 2045.

"We are determined that by 2045, which will be the 100th anniversary of Indonesia`s independence, we will be a strong and equitable economy, a stable and quality democracy, as well as an advanced and leading nation," he said in a state of the nation address before the Parliament here on Thursday, a day before the 67th anniversary of Indonesian independence.

Therefore, the President added, Indonesia had become a more prosperous and democratic nation over the past five years.

"In the 21st century, our major mission is to work towards an advanced and prosperous Indonesia," he stated.

The head of state said Indonesia would have to achieve its development goals in a dynamic global environment that offered as many opportunities as challenges.

"The current global environment demands that we participate in creating world peace, justice and prosperity, which is also in line with our Constitution," he noted.

On the occasion, President Yudhoyono also said Indonesians should be grateful that the country`s independence anniversary had been coinciding with the holy fasting month of Ramadan for the past three years.
