Samarinda (ANTARA News) - An aircraft with four passengers onboard belonging to PT Intan Angkasa went missing Friday afternoon when it was carrying out a mapping work in mining area around the East Kalimantan city of Bontang, airport official said.

The plane with PA 31 Piper Artex PK-IWH type took off at 07.51 am Central Indonesia Standard time (WITA) from Temindung airport to Bontang to conduct the mapping work for about four hours, the airport spokesman, Rajoki Aritonang said here on Friday.

According to him, the plane was expected to return to the airport at about 12.00 WITA, he said, adding that one of its passengers was an Australian national.

The four persons on board the plane were Capt. Marshal Basir, GM Elliott Geophysics International Peter John Elliott (Australia national), Officer Manager EGI Janri Hendrizal, and Security Officer from Defense Ministry Capt Suyoto.

Meanwhile, chief of Samarinda police precinct, Senior Commissiors Arief Prapto said, the ill-fated aircraft was chartered by Elliot Geophysics International to conduct a mapping survey.
