"The products included in list of the APEC are approved green products."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has stated that crude palm oil (CPO) will be included in APEC`s list of eco-friendly products sooner rather than later.
"The exclusion [of CPO from the list of environmentally friendly products approved during a recent APEC meeting) is not really a failure. It is only a matter of time [before crude palm oil is included in the list] and the Indonesian government is still fighting for it," Kadin Chairman Suryo B Sulisto said here on Tuesday.
If Indonesia succeeded in its efforts to get CPO included in the APEC list of eco-friendly products, he added, it would be an important step forward for the country.
"The products included in list of the APEC are approved green products. A number of factors determine whether a product is actually environmentally friendly, such as the production mechanism and the number of machines used in its production," Suryo explained.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton had recommended that Indonesia produce at least 75 products that could be approved as environmentally friendly.
However, during a recent meeting with Hillary, Indonesian Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan admitted that Indonesia was yet to produce 75 environmentally friendly products.
He said Indonesia was only able to produce "20 to 30 eco-friendly items".
