"We conducted a working visit to Japan and held a meeting."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia and Japan are exploring cooperation on creative economy as part of efforts to accelerate the development of a creative economy in Indonesia, according to a minister.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said in a press statement received here on Friday that she had paid a working visit to the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
"We conducted a working visit to Japan and held a meeting with Yukio Edano, the minister for economy, trade and industry affairs (METI) to explore cooperation in the field of creative economy," the minister said.
Since 2002, Japan has developed a "cool Japan" concept as an expression of realizing the Japanese creative industry's development with a Japanese characteristic.
Since 2010, the Japanese government has identified the creative industry as one of the five sectors which have the potential to contribute to economic growth.
"Under METI, a creative industry promotion office has been established to carry out coordination in the implementation of the `Cool Japan` concept and to promote Japanese promotion," she said.
The creative industry in Japan is predicted to contribute 7 percent to the Gross Domestic Product and 5 percent to the absorption of workers, a figure which is almost similar to the contribution of the automotive sector.
In a meeting with the Indonesian minister, Minister Edano said that the initiative, which had been supported by the Japanese government in various sectors, included several matters.
The cooperation, among others, included the production of a film titled "Killer", music development and Iron Chef.
Yukio Edano also stressed that the cooperation between Indonesia and Japan should be started with the exchange of creative talents and human resource development, namely youth talents which were promising for both nations.
