"Student brawls and conflicts in several regions have indicated shortcomings in the present family, socio-economic and political system," Social Affairs Ministry expert staff Sapto Waluyo said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government has a master plan for family development up to 2035, Social Affairs Minister Salim Segaf Al Jufri said at the 5th East Asia Ministerial Forum on Families, held in Brunei Darussalam, on Wednesday.

"This is in line with the country`s master plan on social welfare development, entitled `Prosperous Indonesia 2025`. We realise the central role of the family in developing community cohesiveness," Social Affairs Ministry expert staff Sapto Waluyo quoted the minister as saying on Thursday.

"Student brawls and conflicts in several regions have indicated shortcomings in the present family, socio-economic and political system," he said.

"The minister also emphasized the importance of having a family-friendly environment at workplaces, with longer pregnancy leaves and nursery rooms at public workplaces," Sapto added.

"Besides, the minister called on parents to get better at parenting, stress management and time management," he stated.

The Brunei meeting - themed "Ensuring Work-Family Balance" - was attended by some 100 delegates from 15 countries, including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam.

The 6th East Asia Ministerial Forum on Families will be held in South Korea in 2014.(*)
