"Indonesia`s economy is expected to grow by 6.3 percent in the third quarter this year."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank Indonesia has predicted that the country`s economy will grow by 6.3 percent this year, driven by domestic economic growth.

"Overall, Indonesia`s economy during the 2012-13 period is predicted to grow between 6.1 and 6.5 percent, with a tendency to be around 6.3 percent this year - while in 2013, it will hover between 6.3 and 6.7 percent," the central bank`s governor," Darmin Nasution, said after a board of governors meeting here on Thursday.

The board noted that the domestic economy was still growing, he added, although the growth rate was not as high as expected.

"Indonesia`s economy is expected to grow by 6.3 percent in the third quarter this year, lower than what was previously predicted, because of a drop in the external sector`s performance," Darmin stated.

"Although consumption and domestic demand-oriented investment continues to rise, the drop in exports has caused production and export-oriented investments to decline," he pointed out.

According to the board of governors, Darmin said, the nation`s economic growth would still depend on strong domestic demand, potential improvement in exports amid the current global economic uncertainties, and continued strong growth in Indonesias eastern regions and Java.

"Bank Indonesia will continue to monitor the dynamics of global economies and financial markets and assess their impact on the domestic economy," he continued.

"Our policies will be focused on balancing the external uncertainties with strong domestic economic growth," Darmin added.

He said the currently implemented policies would be continuously evaluated and "tweaked when required".

"Bank Indonesia will continue to coordinate with the government on managing domestic demand and improving the trade balance, in order to safeguard the macro-economy and sustain national economic growth," Darmin stated.
