"We strongly condemn that assault on Indonesian journalist."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chinese newspaper People`s Daily has strongly condemned the assault on Indonesian journalists by National Armed Forces personnel in Pekanbaru City, Riau Province, on October 16.

"We strongly condemn that assault on Indonesian journalist because it infringed the law," People`s Daily Chief Editor Wu Hengquan said during his visit to ANTARA News Agency here on Monday.

He noted that the Indonesian National Armed Forces personnel's action was "inappropriate".

"If a similar incident happened in China, we would not keep silent, we would protest against the attack and take the case to the court," Hengquan added.

He said he would urge the Chinese media to support the Indonesian press in condemning the violence against the nation's journalists.

"There should be no violence against anyone, including journalists," Henquan stated.

At least five reporters who were covering the recent crash of a Hawk 200 jet fighter Didik Herwanto (Riau Pos daily), Andika Pratama (Vokal daily), FB Rian Anggoro (ANTARA), Robi Fahrianto (Riau TV) and M.
