"We predict that by the end of the year, consumption will have exceeded the quota by 3 percent," BPH Migas Chief Andy N Sommeng said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Downstream oil and gas regulator BPH Migas has predicted that fuel oil consumption will reach 45.373 million kilolitres by the end of this year, exceeding the 2012 revised state budget quota, according to BPH Migas Chief Andy N Sommeng.
He stated here on Wednesday that the fuel oil consumption quota set in the 2012 revised state budget was 44.04 million kilolitres.
Andy told the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VII on energy affairs that the projected consumption was based on the trend seen during the January-September period.
"We predict that by the end of the year, consumption will have exceeded the quota by 3 percent," he said.
Fuel oil consumption is expected to reach 3.883 million kilolitres in October, 3.931 million kilolitres in November, and 4.221 million kilolitres in December.
"Thus, we predict that by the end of the year, consumption will touch 45.373 million kilolitres," Andy explained.
"The quota will be exceeded the most in the case of diesel oil, the consumption of which is expected reach 16.041 million kilolitres. That is 6.9 percent higher than the quota of 15 million kilolitres set in the 2012 revised budget," he noted.
"Diesel will be followed by premium gasoline, whose consumption is likely to reach 28.196 million kilolitres 1.3 percent more than the quota of 27.84 million," Andy added.
"However, kerosene consumption is expected to reach 1.136 million kilolitres, which is 5.3 percent lower than the quota of 1.2 million kilolitres," he pointed out.
The fuel oil consumption quota in the 2012 revised budget was raised to 44.04 million kilolitres, from the previously set quota of 40 million kilolitres.
The Finance Ministry has set the subsidized fuel oil consumption target for this year at 43.5 million kilolitres in an effort to "prevent the swelling of fuel oil subsidies". (*)
