Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Roki Aprisdianto (29), a convicted terrorist held at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police detention centre, has escaped disguised as a woman in niqab, according to the police.

"Roki wore the Islamic costume to flee from the detention centre. Earlier, several visitors wearing niqabs visited him," National Police spokesman Brigadier General Boy Rafli Amar said here on Wednesday.

He noted that some 23 such visitors had come to the detention centre on Tuesday and Roki used that as an opportunity to escape.

Boy said the officers in charge of guarding Roki on the fourth floor of the detention centre of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Directorate of Narcotics and Intelligence were now being interrogated.

Roki, who was sentenced to six years in jail in 2011, is a recruit from the Klaten cell. He was arrested towards the end of 2010 for his involvement in several bombings of police stations and houses of prayers in November 2010, he explained.

Meanwhile, the head of the National Police Headquarters public relations division, Inspector General Suhardi Alius, said 13 police officers have so far been questioned in connection with the incident.

These police officers were in charge of guarding the prisoners at the centre when the incident happened, he pointed out.

The police are trying to trace Roki, following up on copies of the identity cards of the visitors that had come wearing niqabs that day. Based on the record, none of the visitors had come to see Roki, Suhardi added.(*)
