Pekanbaru (ANTARA News) - Pekanbaru`s police have arrested four army servicemen and three police officers suspected of being members of drug trafficking syndicate in Riau.

Pekanbaru police spokesman Sr. commissioner Adang Ginanjar said the seven suspects were arrested separately.

A civilian has also been arrested charged with being a leader of the syndicate, Adang said here on Friday.

The suspects were also charged with recently kidnapping and torturing a police officer Joko Fabianto, he said.

Joko was abducted and beaten by the suspects as they suspected Joko knew much about the syndicate.

Joko managed to flee and escaped but he has to be treated at the police hospital in Pekanbaru for injuries all over his body.

The three police and the civilian suspects are now held at the Pekanbaru police detention center for questioning, he said.

The four military suspects have been handed over to military police in the city, he said.

Two of the police suspects and the civilians were arrested in Pekanbaru and the other police suspect was picked up from Rohul, where he was assigned.
