Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted the southeastern part of Sarmi district, Papua province, on Tuesday at 6.58 pm Western Indonesia Time.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicentre of the earthquake was located at 2.60 degrees southern latitude and 138.82 degrees western longitude, approximately 80 kilometres southeast of Sarmi, 208 km southwest of Jayapura city, Papua, and 3,850 km northeast of Jakarta.

The earthquake was not strong enough to trigger a tsunami.(*)
