The apartment buildings are planned in the three areas to accommodate people from the slum areas where river mouths were clogged holding the river water from flowing to the sea, Dahlan said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister for State Enterprises Dahlan Iskan said state construction companies will cooperate in building six low cost apartment tower in slum areas of Marunda, area of state owned bonded zone operator PT Kawasan Berikat Nusantara (KBN) and Klender.

"KBN will have two apartment buildings so are Marunda and Klender each to have two," Dahlan said at his office today.

The apartment buildings are planned in the three areas to accommodate people from the slum areas where river mouths were clogged holding the river water from flowing to the sea, he said.

Jakarta has been flooded by rain waters following frequent heavy rain lately largely caused by poor drainage system and management.

Dahlan said the plan had been in cooperation with the Jakarta city administration under the new Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"It is up the governor where he wants to normalize more water zones in the city. In principle we agree. Technical matters will be discussed with leaders of the state companies," he said.

He said he hopes cooperation from the city administration especially in providing the license.

If the license has been granted the state construction companies could start work to build the six apartment buildings in mid December, he said.

"Certainly the administrative procedures have to be discussed and basically we are ready. PT Indra Karya will serve as the consultant, to prepare the project designs," he said, adding, "this is not a disclosure."

On the same occasion Governor Joko Widodo said construction of the project in Marunda, Klender, and KBN area is estimated to cost Rp600 billion.

Jokowi promised that the license would be handled immediately that construction could start as scheduled.

He said he would ask presidents of the state companies involved in the project to present and discuss the project on Thursday.

Coping with floods that regularly hit Jakarta at least every year is one of the targets pledged by Jokowi in his pre gubernatorial election campaign.

Another big challenge, confronting the new governor is the notorious traffic jams, a daily problem faced by people especially those leaving in suburban areas with works in the city.(*)
