Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met with Singapore`s President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Merdeka Palace here on Wednesday.

"No special agenda was discussed. They discussed any issue of the two`s interest," presidential aide for international relations Teuku Faizasyah said after the meeting.

He said the visit was more for getting to know each other following President Tony Tan`s inauguration as Singapore`s president on September 1.

President Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono are scheduled to welcome President Tony Tan and wife Mrs Mary Chee Bee Kiang in a state dinner in the evening.

"It is hoped there will be a speech from the President (Yudhoyono) and a response speech from the Singapore President," he said.

Faizasyah had earlier said that the visit reflected improvement and better quality in the bilateral relations between the two countries.

"President Tony Tan`s visit this time reflects increasing cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore in various fields. The volume of trade between the two countries continued to increase from year to year. Singapore is also the biggest investor in Indonesia," he said.

President Tony Tan is scheduled to be in the country until Thursday. (*)
