Ternate, N Maluku (ANTARA News) Officials from the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space of Indonesia (LAPAN) has surveyed a number of locations on Morotai Islands District, North Maluku, to find a launch site for its Satellite Orbiting Rocket (RPS).

Morotai Regional Development Planning Board spokesman Iskandar Latuconsina said here on Saturday that a team from LAPAN has surveyed several locations in the district for the 2013 launch of the Satellite Orbiting Rocket.

"Led by Prof Ing Soewarto Hardhienata, the team is currently developing the RPS, designed to put a satellite in Earth orbit," he said.

He noted that since 2008, efforts to launch the RPS have been reached in stages.

According to Ing, LAPAN successfully launched its RX-320 rocket on May 19, 2008 and RX-420 on July 2, 2009 at Pameungpeuk in West Java.
