"We have failed to achieve this target."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government`s target of collecting Rp28-Rp29 trillion in non-tax revenue from the mining sector, as set in the 2012 revised state budget, is unlikely to be met, according to a senior official.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' director general for mineral and coal affairs, Thamrin Sihite, said here on Tuesday that non-tax revenue from the mining sector was now estimated to reach only Rp27-Rp28 trillion by the end of this year.
"Non-tax revenue from the mining sector this year is predicted to be at Rp27 million to Rp28 trillion, about 10 percent lower than the previously set target of Rp28-Rp29 trillion," he stated.
"We have failed to achieve this target because of a decline in the prices of mineral and coal, which in turn led to a decline in the transfer of royalties and contribution to the state," Thamrin explained.
He noted that mining production, particularly that of minerals, also dropped after the government imposed a 20 percent exit tax in mid-2012.
"However, in terms of overall non-tax and tax revenues, we won't be too far off our target of Rp80-Rp90 trillion," Thamrin pointed out.
