Biak, Papua (ANTARA News) - Scarcity in supply resulted in the prices of kerosene to surge to around Rp10,000 per liter in the district of Biak Numfor, Papua province, over the past 1.5 months.

Normally the retail price of kerosene is Rp3,300 per liter, a Biak resident Rulan said here on Saturday.

Rulan said the prices of premium gasoline and diesel oil also shot up to around Rp10,000 per liter.

He said the prices of oil fuels have always increased ahead of religious festivities because of lack of control by the government.

Local people said they suspect illicit practices involving certain government officials had caused the scarcity in supply of subsidized fuel in the market.
