Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Democrat Party has yet to decide names of its figures who will replace Andi Malarangeng as Youth and Sports Minister, the party`s deputy secretary general Saan Mustafa said here on Friday.

"The party has yet to discuss names of its figures who will replace Malarangeng, and even I haven`t heard who will be appointed to the post," Saan said.

He noted that Democrat has its own strategic mechanism to decide whoever the party wanted to be a representative in the government.

"It is the party`s high tribunal that can decide candidates for president, minister, and lawmaker," he said, adding that whoever will replace Malarangeng as sports minister, he or she must have the spirit to make a difference.

Meanwhile, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Friday morning that he would announce Malarangeng`s successor soon.

The new minister will replace Malarangeng, who has resigned after his alleged involvement in a corruption case.

"The new minister will be a member of the Democrat Party. The former minister was also from the Democrat Party," said the president, who is also the Chairman of the Democrat Party`s Advisory Council.

Even since Malaranggeng had been accused of being involved in a corruption case, the Youth and Sports Ministry has been in the limelight.

The former minister had been accused of being involved in a corruption case, pertaining to the procurement of products and services for the development of the Hambalang sports centre in the Bogor district of West Java.

According to an audit conducted by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), the development cost of the Hambalang sports centre had increased significantly all of a sudden, resulting in state losses of Rp246.6 billion.(*)
