"There are about 30 children who are now being treated here."
Kalianda (ANTARA News) - Tens of children are now receiving intensive treatment at Bob Bazar hospital in Kalianda, South Lampung for suffering from dengue fever, nurses said.

"There are about 30 children who are now being treated here. We are yet able to assure whether they are all suffering from dengue fever. But 20 of them have tested positive (for dengue)," a nurse who refused to be named said here on Friday.

In the meantime, Syamsuri, the father of a dengue fever patient, said that his child had suffered from dengue fever.

"We come from Legundi village, Ketapang subdistrict. There are 13 children from the village now receiving medical treatment at this hospital for dengue," Syasuri said.

Dengue cases in Indonesia, which is a tropical country with a fast growing population, increase from time to time.

Therefore, people in various provinces have been warned to remain vigilant against the disease, which is characterized by sudden onset of headache, joint pain, and rashes.

In January this year, the disease claimed the life of Juliadi, a six-year-old boy in Kotawaringin Timur district, Central Kalimantan province.

Juliadi died of dengue at Dr Murjani General Hospital, where at least 28 patients of the same disease were being treated in the city of Sampit.

The following month, a total of 89 dengue fever patients were admitted to Doris Sylvanus General Hospital in Palangkaraya, also in Central Kalimantan.

"However, the number of dengue cases reported in Malang this year is lower than that of previous years. In 2011, 163 people were infected by the disease and one fatality was reported," he noted.

Meanwhile, 95 people in the city of Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, were reported to have been infected by dengue fever this year. However, in 2011, the figure was 74.
