Medan (ANTARA News) - A major quake measuring 6 on the Richter Scale, rocked the regency of Aceh Jaya, in Aceh, on Thursday evening but no casualty and damage to property have been reported.

The quake hit at 20.47 local time with epicenter in the sea 65 kilometer deep, 77 kilometers southwest of Aceh Jaya, the Medan meteorology and geophysics office said.

In Banda Aceh the capital of the province of Aceh people rushed out of their houses or other buildings in panic.

People in Meulaboh , the capital city of the regency of Aceh Barat also felt the tremors.(*)
