"Tow hour rain would cause flooding."Bekasi (ANTARA News) - The Bekasi city administration in West Java said it will build four reservoirs to cope with the city flooding this year.
The reservoirs will be built in the Galaxy housing complex in the sub-districts of Bekasi Selatan, the Dosen IKIP complex in the sub-district of Pondokgede, Pengasingan in the sub-district of Rawalumbu, and in the Aren Jaya housing complex in the sub-district of Bekasi Timur, the secretary of the Bekasi Bina Marga office Tri Adiyanto said here on Monday.
One of the reservoirs to be built soon is the one in Galaxy in the former fishing place over a hectare of land.
"The project to cost around Rp15 billion will be financed in cooperation with the housing developer PT Agung Sedayu as the government has no budget for it," Tri Adiyanto said.
He said the reservoir is vital as the water canal in the form of siphon is not wide enough to take water in rainy season .
"The flood water would be held first to the reservoir before the water in the siphon flows out," he said.
The next to be built is in the Dosen IKIP complex where land clearing is in the process for the reservoir, he said.
"IKIP complex is prone to flooding as the location is low level ground. Tow hour rain would cause flooding," he said.
Pengasingan and Aren Jaya are also prone to flooding, he added.
"The city budget for flood control rose 10 percent in 2013 from Rp80 billion to Rp90 billion," he said. (Uu.AS/H-ASG/F001)
