Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The people of Jakarta terrorized by big floods on Thursday and Friday may breathe a sigh of relief when weather forecasters said there was no signs of a repeat of Thursday`s disastrous flooding at least for Saturday.

The reappearance of the morning sun after hiding behind thick clouds on Thursday and Friday may signal that the threat of doomsday is over.

Many people, however, have yet to stay for some time at their refugee camps and makeshift shelters until it is safe to return to their houses filled with garbage and other filthy things left by the floodwater.

In some places rescue workers are still busy looking for missing people swept by water rolling down from upstream area of Bogor mountainous district.

Muhammad Ibnu, the officer in charge of Manggarai floodgate that regulates the Ciliwung rive water flow said the city would be safe from more flooding at least in the next 10 hours.

The rainfall was normal in Bogor and the water volume in the Ciliwung river began to fall, Ibnu said here on Saturday.

The water lever at the Manggarai floodgate dropped to 925 centimeter this morning from 930 centimeters on Friday night, Ibnu said.

On Thursday the water level reached more than 1,000 centimeters exceeding the critical point of 950 centimeters.

In the Katulampa dam in Bogor and the Depok floodgate, water levels also declined . The water level in the Depok floodgate was already normal at 200 centimeters, Ibnu said.

He said rain may fall again in Jakarta today but would not cause a threat of flooding, adding, the biggest possible problem is if heavy rain hit the upstream area of the Ciliwung river in Bogor.

A unit of the army crack troop (Kopassus) is still posted at Manggarai to be ready to offer help of evacuation in the event of sudden resurgence of the water level in the river.

The military is also involved in repairing the Laturharhari embankment collapsed on Thursday submerging wide areas in the city.
