The BEI index gained 0.09 percent to close at 4,503.15 points with the index of 45 most liquid stocks rising 0.07 percent to 770.39 points.
"The BEI index gained slightly amid a decline recorded by the majority of Asian market," Panin Sekuritas` analyst Purwoko Sartono said here on Thursday.
Purwoko said investors are still awaiting the result of the meeting of the European Central Bank (ECB).
He said the movement of regional market including BEI are overshadowed by political instability in Italy and Spain.
"The commodity prices in international market also weakened. India, one of the world`s new economic powers, projected a lower growth this year," he said.
There were 156,606 transactions in share trade on Thursday with 4.523 billion shares valued at Rp4.140 trillion, changing hands.
Gainers led in number with price hike recorded for 136 shares as against decliners of 121 and 122 flat.
Regional markets Hang Seng extended loss with index falling 0.34 percent to 23,177 points, Nikkei-225 index down 0.93 percent to 11,357.07 points and Straits Times shrinking 0.45 percent to 3,261.77 points.(*)
