Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia and France will explore and follow up discussion for closer cooperation in the field of tourism and creative economy, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu has said.

In a press statement here on Monday, Mari said that during her visit to several European countries recently, she also went to France to meet with the country`s international trade minister Nicole Bricq, Arts, Trade and Tourism Minister Mme. Sylvia Pinel, and Secretary General of French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Pierre Sellal.

"During the meeting with Mme Sylvia Pinelmet, we discussed the development of tourism and creative economy, especially related to small medium business role," Mari said.

She noted that the follow up of the cooperation framework in the tourism sector was also discussed as part of strategic cooperation between the two countries.

"I also invited Sylvia Pinelmet to visit Indonesia to discuss the follow up cooperation in the sustainable tourism aspect, education and trainings, and cooperation in private sector," she said.

In a meeting with Nicole Bricq and Pierre Sellal, we discussed on bilateral relations between Indonesia and France, and the European Union.

The meeting also discussed the importance of trade for economic growth and employment, as well as the future of the multilateral trading system under the World Trade Organization (WTO) -which the duty of the director general will end on August 31, 2013.

Marie said that both Indonesia and France has central role in trade, especially in the current global economic slowdown.

The trade sector has important role in boosting the economy and employment when the economic crisis hit, and based on previous experiences, the trade organization acted to prevent unfair trade.

The Indonesia-France trade value in January-November 2012 recorded 2.7 billion US dollars, with an average growth rate in 2007 to 2011 have reached 7.23 percent.

The meeting also noted on the importance to have a commitment to the global trading system as the world trade organization`s establishment main goal, said Mari.

Mari believes that the multilateral trading system is the solution to the problems of the global economy.

"Many trade issues can only be resolved multilaterally, because multilateral trading system ensure certainty and transparency," said Mari Pangestu.
