"Politics in Indonesia is like a band competition. The political parties are the bands that need singers," he said after giving a general lecture at state University of Indonesia.
Depok, W Java (ANTARA News) - Former vice president Jusuf Kalla has likened himself to a singer without a band in the current politics.

"Politics in Indonesia is like a band competition. The political parties are the bands that need singers," he said after giving a general lecture at state University of Indonesia here on Tuesday.

He said Indonesia has a lot of bands and several singers. Golkar Party, for example, is a good band but its singer still needs to be further improved, he said.

With regard to the Democrat Party he said "it has now been broken due to various problems it is facing to make it to have no bass player and also a singer."

Golkar and Democrat are two of major political parties to compete in the legislative elections in 2014, which will later be followed by a presidential election.

In the last election in 2009 the Democrat Party came out as the winner to take Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to present presidency.

Golkar Party meanwhile was the runner-up followed by the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP) in the third place.

Jusuf Kalla who is from Golkar said there are also smaller parties with unpopular singers. He considered current Jakarta governor Joko Widodo and current Constitutional Court chief justice Mahfud MD as singers without bands.

Joko Widodo and Mahfud MD and also Jusuf Kalla have so far been mentioned as potential presidential candidates for the election in 2014.

"In 2013 the bands would seek singers and singers would find the right bands," he said.

Jusuf Kalla said all political parties have their own problems including electability problems of their leaders or executives.(*)
