Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Publicly listed diversified group PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) said on Thursday its net profit rose 9 percent to Rp19.4 trillion in 2012 from Rp17.8 trillion in 2011, fueled by an increase in net income,

Net income jumped 16 percent to Rp188.1 trillion from Rp162.6 trillion, PT Astra International President Director Prijono Sugiarto said in a press statement released on Thursday.

"Grup Astra`s good performance was particularly fueled by high car sales. The declining demand for heavy-duty equipment triggered by low price of coal and the drop in CPO prices although its production was on the increase had an impact on the company`s profit," he said.

Yet, the company`s business prospects remained good despite unstable coal and CPO prices, he said.

He said net profit per share also increased 9 percent to Rp480 from Rp439 previously. (*)
