Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Secondary Education Director General of the Education and Culture Ministry Hamid Muhammad said that Indonesia and Turkey will hold the first International Science Project Olympiad (ISPro) on May 20-24, 2013.

"We will hold the ISPro in cooperation with the Pacific Countries Social and Economic Solidarity Association (Pasiad) of Turkey as the organizer of the competition. The competition will be participated in by a number of world students different ages ranging from 13 to 19 years old," said Hamid after the Indonesian Science Project Olympiad (ISPO) award ceremony here on Thursday.

According to him, Pasiad and the Ministry have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the holding of the ISPro competition on February 15, 2013.

He hoped that by organizing the ISPro, both institutions can accelerate science research.

"We will select a number of Indonesian students to participate in the ISPro event. They will be selected from those taking part in several competitions such as the Adolescent Scientific Research Institution (LPIR), Indonesian Science Project Olympiad (ISPO) and Indonesian Students` Research Olympiad (OPSI)," said Hamid.

The Chairman of Pasiad`s Education Department Sabar Risdadi said the ISPro theme will be specific on the environment science research.

"The research field that will be contested in the ISPRo event consists of physics, chemistry, biology are related to environment sustainability," said Sabar.

According to Sabar, the organizer will invite several young researcher students to the competition to support and appreciate science research projects that have been developed by the adolescents.

"The Indonesian participants that will join ISPro will be selected later through several local science project competitions," said Sabar.(*)
