Palembang (ANTARA News) - Six soldiers have been named suspects in last Thursday`s arson attack on the Ogan Komering Ulu district police station in South Sumatra, a military officer said.

They were among 30 soldiers questioned for their alleged part in the attack, chief of the Sriwijaya regional military command Maj. Gen. Nugroho Widyotomo said here on Wednesday.

The suspects are identified by their initials as Sergeant Major FTH, Chief Private DM, First Sergeant IR, First Corporal Y, Major IA and First Private TM.

Two of the suspects, Major IA and Sergeant Major FTH, would soon stand trial at a military tribunal after their dossiers had been completed, he said.

He said the trial would start as early as late March or early April at the latest.

The number of suspects might increase as a team of investigators was still probing the attack which left six police officers injured, he said.

Nugroho said his institution would always take disciplinary action against any of his men found guilty of committing misdeeds.

The police station was severely damaged after dozens of soldiers from the local Army command set it on fire during the attack.

The attack was triggered by the earlier shooting death of a soldier by traffic police officer in January this year.

The soldier was reported to have committed a traffic infraction while riding a motorcycle near a police post guarded by two officers.
