Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - A magnitude 5.5 earthquake rocked Maluku Tenggara Barat district, Maluku province, on Monday afternoon but it caused no damage to property.

The epicenter of the quake which struck at 00.54 p.m. local time was in the sea 148 km southwest of the district at a depth of 100 km, according to data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Monday.

Secretary of the Maluku Provincial Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) Kifly Wakanno said no material damage was caused by the quake.

Maluku is one of the provinces which are at risk of quake and tsunami because it is located in the meeting of Pacific, Indo-Australia and Eurasia faults.
