Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here on Monday is scheduled to chair a meeting to discuss domestic affairs including the latest violence in Palopo, South Sulawesi Province.

The meeting is expected to be attended by among others Vice President Boediono, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa, Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, Chairman of the Presidential Working Unit for Development Supervision and Control (UKP4) Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi, Chief of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Admiral Agus Suhartono, Chief of the National Police General Timur Pradopo, and Chief of the Indonesian Intelligence Agency (BIN) Marciano Noorman.

A riot broke out in Palopo, on Sunday when supporters of a losing candidate for a new mayor of Palopo burned the offices of Palopo city mayor, Golkar Party, Palopo Pos daily and other public buildings.

The perpetrators were a group of supporters of Haidar Basir as they rejected the result of the election, police spokesman sr. Comr Endi Sutendi said in Palopo, on Sunday.

The group came to the office of the Election Commission office where the commission members were holding a plenary session on the result of the election.

The process of vote counting went on without any disturbance, but after the result of the election was announced the group of around 500 supporter of Haidar ran amok throwing rocks and setting fire on office of the election commission.

A rival group, the supporters of another candidate Judas Amir-Ahmad Syarifuddin (JA), who garnered a the majority votes came with about the same strength.

Clash between the two groups was unavoidable hurling rocks and Molotove cocktails at each other group.

Finally police and the military succeeded in taking control of the situation after the first group was driven away and dispersed.(*)
