Up till now Indonesian students in South Korea haven`t yet left the country following the North Korean government`s appeal that foreign nationals should leave the country immediately.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia needs to be more proactive in solving conflict in the Korean Peninsula, Coordinator to Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) Haris Azhar said here on Thursday.

"Indonesia as a country which has commitment towards world peace must make use of every international forums (ASEAN, the United Nations, etc) to call on the continuation of peace process between South Korea and North Korea," he said.

Earlier Yonhap News Agency reported South Korean Foreign Affairs Minister calls on ASEAN to play an active role in easing off tension in the Korean Peninsula.

Meanwhile Indonesia`s Presidential Staff for Foreign Affairs Teuku Faizasyah said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono continuously observes the situation in the Korean Peninsula.

"Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa regularly reports to President Yudhoyono about current situation there (in the Korean peninsula)," he said adding Indonesian government has considered several steps to be taken in case of emergency.

Up till now Indonesian students in South Korea haven`t yet left the country following the North Korean government`s appeal that foreign nationals should leave the country immediately.

"We do not as yet undergo evacuation, because Indonesian Embassy has called us to do normal activities," said one of Indonesian students who is studying at Seoul National University (SNU) Ginanjar Mahardikatama when contacted by ANTARA.

According to Ginanjar, an official notice to remain doing a normal activity is issued by the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul through its website on Thursday (April 4) last.

"So far the condition in the Republic of Korea itself is still normal, there is no special activity, even no Koreans are urged to join the military," Ginanjar noted.

In addition, Ginanjar said that all students and other Indonesian citizens are encouraged to immediately gather at the Embassy for further action if there is attack.

"If there is an attack, there will be warning sirens first and then we gather at the Embassy," said Gina.(*)
