Construction of the dam is estimated to cost Rp432 billion...
Mataram (ANTARA News) - Construction of the Pandandure dam in the regency of Lombok Timur, West Nusa Tenggara has been 52 percent completed, a provincial official said.

The dam is expected to be fully completed in June next year, head of the regional riverside area center I Marsono said here on Tuesday.

The dam will have a holding capacity of 27 million cubic meters of water and it could irrigate 5,360 hectares of rice field in that area, Marsono said.

It would be the second largest dam after the Pelaparado dam in Dompu in the province, he said.

Construction of the dam is estimated to cost Rp432 billion with fund from the state budget, he said, adding it is expected to result in an increase in rice production from Lombok Timur.

Construction of the dam has been delayed for more than 10 years, before groundbreaking ceremony in May 2011.

With enough irrigation, rice productivity in that district is expected to increase from 3.5 tons to 6 tons per hectare.

It would serve to prevent flooding in the area.
