Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Zannuba Arifah Chafsoh or Yenny Wahid, a daughter of late president Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid, has dropped a plan to join the ruling Democrat Party.

Yenny Wahid who is also chief of the New Indonesian Nation`s Sovereignty Party (PKBIB) said in a press conference here on Tuesday she and other members of the party`s executive board had decided not to join the Democrat Party led by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who is also the Indonesian president.

"We thank President SBY very much for his offer to join the Democrat," she said.

She denied an allegation that she dropped the plan to join the Democrat Party because she was not appointed to the post of the party`s deputy chief.

"I have several times met with him (SBY) but we have never talked about the post in the party`s lineups. So I dropped the plan not because I was not appointed to the post of the party`s deputy chief," she said.

Yenny said she made up her mind not to join the Democrat Party after consulting a number of Muslim clerics in East Java, Central Java, West Java, Banten and Jakarta as recommended by her mother, Sinta Nuriyah Wahid.

With the decision, Yenny said she and PKIB members "do not go anywhere but are found everywhere."

The most important thing was that Gus Dur followers would always strive for his principles of struggle and ideals in nationalism, pluralism, humanity and so on, she said.(*)
