Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan said he was considering the possibility of state-owned enterprises to manage cannabis farmland for health affairs aimed at using the cannabis seeds for curing cancer and heart diseases.

"This was proposed by a pharmacist that cannabis seeds can be used as heart and cancer medication. I learn the idea after being provoked," said Dahlan, here Tuesday.

Dahlan disclosed his interest to learn about the cannabis farmland for medical purpose after receiving a pharmacist last week.

According to him, the pharmacist briefly described about the technical use of cannabis seeds as raw material of medicines.

"It is a logical thing in the pharmaceutical point of view, so I asked the pharmacist to prepare references of the cannabis seeds use as medical treatment," the minister said.

Dahlan, however, declined to mention identity of the pharmacist who came to him.

"Why the State Owned Enterprises do not consider about cultivating cannabis farmland as an alternative for medication and health, instead of burning the cannabis ?" Dahlan quoted the pharmacist as saying.(*)
