Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Seventeen police personnel have been questioned in connection with the death of four people at Rupit area in South Sumatra`s Musirawas district on Monday (April 29), a spokesman said.

"Right now 17 personnel have been questioned in connection with the Musirawas case and the figure is likely to increase," head of the Indonesian police (Polri)`s public relations division Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said on Thursday.

The general supervision inspector and the profession and safeguard division head are still in Musirawas to check the truth of alleged irregularities in performing their duties, he said.

"There is no blockade any longer and the security condition there has returned to normal," he said.

An angry mob set fire to two police stations, one police dormitory, nine cars and a motorcycle on Monday. The incident also left five police officers injured.

Boy said South Sumatra provincial police chief Insp. Gen. Saud Usman was still negotiating with local social figures. The dialog was facilitated by former South Sumatra provincial police chief Insp. Gen. (ret) Iskandar Hasan.

The clash with the police broke out after local people demanded the formation of North Musirawas district. (*)
