"It is time now to conduct not only bureaucratic reform but revolution," Yudhoyono said at a limited cabinet meeting.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called for revolutionizing business licensing in the country to reduce investment problems and boost economic development.

"It is time now to conduct not only bureaucratic reform but revolution," he said at a limited cabinet meeting here on Tuesday.

He said radical changes in licensing or business management at central as well as local levels were needed as the problem had happened for a long time and hindered investment.

He said in the current unfriendly world economic conditions investment would be the main reliable source of growth to offset exports` decline.

He said if investment is hindered the country`s economy would be affected.

As an example President Yudhoyono quoted the latest report from the chief of SKK Migas, the oil and gas business working unit, that tens of permits have been hindering oil and gas investment in the country so far.

"If we could just cut a third of them our economy would move again and so would investment in the oil and gas downstream sector. This is also a small example of the case of thousands of permits in the country. So, we have been hurt because of regulations that we ourselves have made," he said.

President Yudhoyono called on his cabinet members to work hard to realize it especially now in the final years of their service.

"Let us, in the final days of service in the cabinet, put everything in order although it would be the next government that would enjoy the results. It would be better to do it now together," he said.

President Yudhoyono would end his term in 2014 and would not be able to seek reelection as he has been in the post twice.(*)
