Jakarta (ANTARA News) - US Ambassador Scot Marciel joined senior executives from General Motors (GM) on May 8 to help inaugurate production at General Motors` new automobile assembly plant in Bekasi, West Java, US Embassy here said on Friday.

GM invested more than $150 million to build the new factory which will manufacture GM`s 7-passenger Spin MPV model, nicknamed the `Spirit of Indonesia`.

The new factory now employs 750 Indonesian staff and will soon be expanding to a second shift.

GM is opening a number of new dealerships across Indonesia and also plans to export vehicles to other ASEAN countries from its new Bekasi plant.
