Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Foreign Ministry has repatriated 90 more Indonesian citizens from violence-torn Syria via Beirut, Lebanon, in two batches.

Forty-five of them arrived here on Monday and 45 others are scheduled to arrive here on Wednesday by Etihad flights, the ministry`s director of information and media, PLE Priatna, said in a written statement released on Tuesday.

The uncertain situation in Syria in the wake of twin car bomb blasts near its border with Turkey has prompted the Indonesian government to act quickly by repatriating the 121st and 122nd Indonesian citizens from the Middle Eastern country, he said.

"The shelter used to accommodate Indonesian citizens in Beirut has been vacant as of today (Tuesday) when the 90 Indonesian citizens were repatriated," he said.

Indonesians living in a number of cities, including Aleppo are waiting for exit permits to leave the Syrian immigration check points, the ministry`s director of Indonesian citizens protection and legal aid, Tatang Razak said.

"Shortly after receiving exit permits they will be taken to Beirut and flown to Jakarta as quickly as possible," he said.

According to Tatang, 81 Indonesians still live in Aleppo and six others in Lattakia.

"A total of 185 Indonesians are still in the Syrian capital of Damascus," he said.(*)
