Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Newly-installed Minister of Finance Chatib Basri has expressed readiness to escort the debate of 2013 budget revision at the House of Representatives (DPR).

"The process will start tomorrow with the budget committee. I think discussion will touch on figures that have been presented in connection with the government`s plan to raise the price of subsidized fuel oils and extend compensation," he said at the state palace here on Tuesday.

Chatib was installed as the new finance minister at the palace by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono that day to replace Agus Martowardojo who has been appointed as the next central bank`s governor.

He said he hoped the debate with the DPR would be smooth and would not last long so that the policy could be immediately taken.

He said the policy to raise the subsidized fuel price was needed to give certainty to the country`s macro-economy and assure investment sustainability and fair budget allocations as it would include compensation for the poor.

He said President Yudhoyono had given him three assignments namely guarding a fiscal policy, increasing investment and achieving the economic development goal namely people`s welfare.

Chatib`s inauguration was attended by First Lady Any Yudhoyono vice president Boediono and wife Mrs. Herawati Boediono, all cabinet members, defense forces commander Admiral Agus Suhartono, National Police chief General Timur Pradopo and heads of state institutions.

Chatib was formerly head of the Investment Coordinating Board.(*)
