United Nations, New York (ANTARA News) - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Friday strongly condemned a deadly attack in the Afghan capital of Kabul, the targets of which included the compound of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Several gunmen and suicide bombers launched attack on several targets also including a police station in Kabul on Friday evening, leaving casualties, a local police source said.

"The first blast took place at around 4:10 p.m. local time in Shahrara area," the source told Xinhua.

The secretary-general "notes that Afghan security forces have been responding to the attack, for which the Taliban have claimed responsibility," said a statement issued here by Ban`s spokesman.

"The secretary-general greatly regrets the casualties to Afghans and to international aid workers caught in the attack," the statement said. "He extends his heartfelt sympathies to those injured."

"He calls upon all parties to make every effort to bring the violence to an end and work towards sustainable peace in Afghanistan," the statement added.
