Jakarta, July 4, 2013 (ANTARA) -- The Bilateral relationship between the government of Indonesia and Sudan has long been intertwined, Especially, in the fishery and marine affairs which is occured that Sudan has clearly been interested to learn the Indonesian aquaculture. This northeastern country has even officially sent their aquaculture experts to attend the aquaculture training in Indonesia. Since Sudan is the country with the largest land crossed by the Nile river, the freshwater aquaculture is inevitably among the country's important things. However, the country hasn't yet managed it to develop it well.

Attending the Meeting of the South Countries Technical Collaboration, The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fishery, Sharif C. Sutardjo, said that Indonesia plays a central role in the global food resilience. Especially in the marine and fishery affairs, Indonesia is considered the global benchmark in the fishery affairs. In a number of the aquaculture training programs organized by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF), such as: the International Training Program for Asia and African Countries on Grouper Breeding and Rearing held in Situbondo, Indonesia, on May 27 - June 6, 2009; the International Training Program for African Countries on Marine Fisheries, held in the same city, May 9-14, 2011; the International Training Program on Freshwater Aquaculture for Asian, Pasific and African Countries held in Sukabumi, Indonesia, on May 23-30, 2011; and the International Training Program for Asian, Pacific and African Countries, held in Sukabumi, on May 7-15, 2012 Sudan enthusiastically participated by delegating its representatives. "Through such training programs, it is a greatly-built opportunity to enhance the Indonesia-Sudan bilateral relationship," Sharif conveyed when welcoming the state visit by Faisal Hassan Ibrahim, the Sudan's Minister of Livestock and Fishery, in Jakarta on July 4.

Sharif asserted that Indonesian consistently strengthens the relationship with Sudan, particularly in the cooperation of marine affairs and fisheries. As the implementation, Indonesia invites Sudan to always participate in a number of future aquaculture training programs. "In addition, both countries have also conducted a collaboration between Indonesia and Sudan's United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the International Workshop on Quality Control and Management for Fisheries Industry for Sudan, held in Tegal, Indonesia, on October 13-23, 2012, which was participated by 17 Sudan's delegates."

Sharif added that MMAF not only invited Sudan in a number of training programs, In the collaboration framework with UNIDO, Indonesia has also delegated its experts to Sudan to share knowledge and experience. The delegates officially conducted the Fishing Techniques for Artisanal Fisherfolks and Landing Sites Management training, held in state of Red Sea, Sudan, on January 7-20, 2013 which was participated by 30 Sudan's participants. "Sudan possesses a huge fishery potency. Therefore, we hope that the bilateral collaboration between both countries, especially in the marine and fishery affairs, will be stronger and more solid in the years to come, which ultimately will benefit both countries," concluded Sharif.
