Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Fire hit and destroyed military barracks in Sario Tumpaan, Manado, capital of North Sulawesi province, on Sunday midday, but no casualty.

The cause of the fire that hit the barracks where nine families of 32 people lived is still being investigated, Sario Tumpaan village chief Tommy Adile said.

Tommy said the families have to be evacuated to a tent set up by the district military command and the local authorities.

He said the fire was believed to have originated from a barrack house, but it was not yet clear which of the houses.

"The fire was finally put out after a fire engine was brought in to that place," he said.

The fire victims have received relief aid in foods and bedding and other requirements.

The Manado mayor and his deputy planned to visit that place to present aid for the victims.
