Some days ago they were found entering from Timor Leste and we caught them."Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - Indonesia police have stepped up their monitoring for possible flows of narcotic drugs from Timor Leste, head of crime investigation Commissioner General Pol. Sutarman said here on Wednesday.
He said suppliers had been more courageous to take risks to supply the drugs to Indonesia due to increasing consumers and prices while the stuff is very dangerous for consumption.
He said they had continued improving their methods of operation and also kept moving their entryways.
"Some days ago they were found entering from Timor Leste and we caught them," he said.
"Even they have also made use of a compressor to smuggle drugs from the Netherlands through Kuala Lumpur recently," he added.
Sutarman said that drug smuggling seemed to still continue despite the fact that some suspects had been convicted and sentenced to death in connection with their involvement in the business.
In view of that he called on all community members including school teachers and religious clerics to inform their community members about the danger of the drugs and prevent them from being involved in them.
Sutarman was here to launch the Cyber Crime Investigation Satellite Office (CCISO) at the West Nusa Tenggara Police Command.
The West Nusa Tenggara Police Command`s chief, Brigadier General Mochammad Iriawan said narcotic drugs entered the region through many ways.
He said the police had conducted tight checks on entry points including air and sea ports but some of them still managed to smuggle the drugs.
He said checks had also been made on vehicles coming to the region but not all of them were checked due to privacy or lack of indications of law violations.
"Boats are also checked but some come directly from Bali and other regions outside the province to tourists destinations such as Gili Trawangan and others. It is impossible to check them all and there is still possibility for drugs to miss inspection," he said.
He suggested that special embarkation points were set up at Gili Trawangan and other tourist destinations in North Lombok to check luggage carried by tourist boats coming directly from Bali.
Based on data cases of narcotic abuse in the region in 2011 reached 158 and the number rose to 163 in 2012.
